Providence, Guyana – The Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) have once again asserted their dominance in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), securing their fifth title with a hard-fought victory over the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) in the final at Providence Stadium. TKR’s triumph marks their first title win away from their home ground in Trinidad.

After winning the toss, Guyana won the toss and elected to bat first. TKR restricted the Warriors to a below-par score, and, despite a few hiccups in their chase, TKR held their nerve to overcome Guyana. Akeal Hosein hit the winning runs.

TKR’s success was built on a collective effort. Captain Nicholas Pooran led from the front, while veteran Kieron Pollard had a stellar season with the bat, earning him the Player of the Tournament award. Spinner Usman Tariq proved to be a surprise weapon, and Sunil Narine continued to be a reliable performer.

“We lost the last 5 years and a lot of things were said like: guys are old and their time is past and I guess every single person answered the call,” Pooran said.

GAW captain Imran Tahir acknowledged his team’s batting shortcomings. “We knew at the half time we were 20 runs short,” Tahir said, “the ball was turning nicely and the only message was to fight till the end.”

Pollard, who was named Player of the Tournament, said “It is a fantastic moment, not just for myself but also for my family who urged me to play cricket. And to the entire TKR team as well, could not have asked for anything better.”

Akeal Hosein, named Player of the Match, dedicated his performance to teammate Sunil Narine. “In the last couple of games from my perspective things have gone horribly for me and Sunil Narine stuck by my side day in and day out, really happy that I can perform like this and make him smile and get over the line for him today.”

The celebrations are underway in the TKR camp, as they celebrated their win with pride.
