**MINNEAPOLIS, MN** – The Cleveland Guardians completed a dominant doubleheader sweep of the Minnesota Twins Saturday at Target Field, winning 8-0 in the nightcap after securing a victory earlier in the day. The wins, fueled by stellar starting pitching, pushed the Guardians to within one game of the AL Central-leading Detroit Tigers and into a tie for the third Wild Card spot in the American League.
Logan Allen pitched a masterful eight scoreless innings in the second game, allowing just four hits and striking out seven. His performance followed a brilliant outing by Slade Cecconi, who tossed seven scoreless innings in the opener. Together, the duo provided a much-needed respite for a Guardians bullpen that had been heavily taxed.
“Slade and Logan deserve all the credit for both wins today, coming out and doing what they did to give the bullpen essentially a day off,” said Guardians manager Stephen Vogt.
The Guardians’ offense exploded in the fifth inning of the second game, scoring six runs on seven hits against Twins starter Bailey Ober. A key moment came when José Ramírez hustled to beat out an infield single, a play that sparked a rally that included RBI hits from Kyle Manzardo, Gabriel Arias, and C.J. Kayfus.
“If your superstar is going to play that way, if your future Hall of Famer is going to play that way, then you have to,” Vogt said, praising Ramírez’s hustle.
The Guardians (84-71) have now won 10 straight games and 15 of their last 16, closing a once-massive gap with the Tigers in the AL Central. The team’s surge puts them in a playoff position for the first time since April, tied with the Houston Astros for the third Wild Card, holding a tiebreaker over the team.
The Guardians will now return home to Cleveland for a crucial three-game series against the Detroit Tigers, with the division lead and a playoff berth hanging in the balance.
