Fri Sep 19 20:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Federer Dazzles Young Fans, Unveils Renovated Courts in San Francisco Ahead of Laver Cup

**SAN FRANCISCO** – Tennis legend Roger Federer brought his signature style and charm to San Francisco on Wednesday, participating in the unveiling of six newly renovated tennis courts at John McLaren Park as part of the Laver Cup’s Community Legacy Project. The event comes ahead of the prestigious tournament, which kicks off this weekend at the Chase Center.

Federer, who retired from professional tennis three years ago, delighted local youth by showcasing his skills with trick serves and between-the-legs shots, providing them with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to rally with the 20-time Grand Slam champion.

“Coming out to a public park like this and spending time with kids and inspire them and talk tennis and see what good we’ve done with the Laver Cup coming here,” Federer said. “So I’m very happy that we’re finally here and that I’m back.”

The tennis icon also took time to sign autographs, pose for selfies, and even hit a few balls with San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie. He was joined by Yannick Noah, the captain of Team Europe for the Laver Cup, for some strategic planning on the court.

While in town, Federer had the opportunity to see the unique black court inside the Golden State Warriors’ arena, the venue for this year’s Laver Cup. Despite his retirement, Federer expressed a hint of regret that he wouldn’t be able to compete on the court himself.

“I looked really special,” Federer said. “I feel very, sad is not the word, but I’m missing out that I can’t play, because this is a venue I would have loved to play.”

As the Laver Cup approaches, anticipation is building among players and fans alike. Patrick Rafter, assistant captain for Team World, is eager to witness the excitement in an arena typically dominated by NBA superstar Stephen Curry. A formal practice day is scheduled for Thursday, allowing fans to catch a glimpse of the world-class talent before the tournament officially begins.
