**India Supports UN Resolution Allowing Abbas to Address Assembly Via Video After US Visa Denials**
**United Nations, September 20, 2025:** India has voted in favor of a United Nations General Assembly resolution allowing Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to address the upcoming high-level session via video. This decision comes after the United States denied visas to Palestinian officials, preventing their in-person participation.
The resolution, titled ‘Participation by the State of Palestine,’ was adopted during the UNGA’s 80th session with a vote of 145 in favor, five against, and six abstentions. The United States and Israel opposed the measure.
The resolution expresses regret over the U.S.’s decision to deny visas to and revoke visas of Palestinian representatives. It allows President Abbas to address the General Debate of the 80th UNGA session on September 25 via a “pre-recorded statement”.
This statement will be played in the General Assembly Hall after an introduction by a Palestinian representative physically present in the venue. The General Debate commences on September 23.
The resolution also allows Palestine to deliver statements by videoconference or pre-recorded messages at the September 22 international conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and Implementation of the Two-State Solution.
India has historically been a strong supporter of Palestine, recognizing the State of Palestine in 1988 and remains committed to the two-state solution.
