**DENVER (CBS4) -** Colorado residents should prepare for a week of unpredictable weather as a series of fronts move across the state. The week began with a dusting of snow in the high mountain passes and widespread rain and thunderstorms overnight Saturday.
A cold front ushered in cooler temperatures on Sunday, with highs expected to be five to ten degrees below average for this time of year. While the Denver metro area will see plenty of sunshine for the afternoon and evening, the Northern Front Range and far Northeast corner of the state may experience lingering storms into the early afternoon.
Don’t get used to the chill, though. Meteorologist Dayle Cedars of CBS News Colorado forecasts a return to warmer conditions on Monday, with highs reaching the low to mid-80s in the metro area. Parents are advised to send their children to school with a sweatshirt or jacket for the cool morning, but they likely won’t need it by afternoon pickup.
Another front will move through on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing temperatures back down into the 70s, along with a chance for afternoon thunderstorms. By Thursday, however, the mercury will climb back into the low 80s.
“Colorado’s weather is known for its rapid changes, and this week will be a prime example,” said Cedars. “Residents should stay informed and be prepared for anything from sunshine to storms.”
