**New Delhi, India -** Bangladesh secured a narrow 8-run victory over Afghanistan in a nail-biting Asia Cup-2025 encounter on Tuesday, keeping their hopes of qualifying for the Super-4 stage alive.

After winning the toss and batting first, Bangladesh posted a total of 154/5, with opener Tanzid Hasan smashing a crucial half-century (52 off 31 balls) to give his team a strong start. However, Afghan spinners Rashid Khan (2/26) and Noor Ahmad (2/23) clawed their team back into the game, restricting Bangladesh’s scoring in the middle overs.

Afghanistan’s chase got off to a disastrous start, losing their opener in the first over. Despite a steady effort, the Afghan batsmen struggled to build partnerships. Rishad Hossain claimed two crucial wickets, including the dangerous Rahmanullah Gurbaz (35). Azmatullah Omarzai’s late hitting (30 off 16) briefly raised Afghanistan’s hopes, but Taskin Ahmed’s clever slower ball brought his innings to an end.

With 27 needed off the final 12 balls, Rashid Khan’s presence gave Afghanistan a glimmer of hope. However, Mustafizur Rahman bowled a superb penultimate over, dismissing Rashid (11) and another batsman to leave Afghanistan short of the target.

Afghanistan were eventually bowled out for 146 in their 20 overs.

Bangladesh now await the result of the upcoming match between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, which will determine which team joins the Super-4 stage. A win for Sri Lanka will send Bangladesh through, while an Afghan victory will see them progress instead.
