The cheque was presented to the family by B. Sai Kalyan Chakravarthi, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Guntur, in the presence of DLSA Secretary Syed Ziyauddin, marking the culmination of a protracted legal battle.
The case, initially filed seeking ₹85 lakh compensation, progressed through the trial court and the Andhra Pradesh High Court, resulting in an enhanced compensation award of ₹91,74,094 with interest. However, the insurance company appealed.
Finally, through the conciliatory efforts of the Lok Adalat, a settlement of ₹1.11 crore was reached, providing much-needed financial relief to the grieving family. Counsels V. Brahma Reddy (for the claimants) and P. Ramanjaneyulu (for the insurance company), along with representatives from United India Insurance Company, were present at the settlement.
“This settlement demonstrates the efficiency and accessibility of Lok Adalats in delivering justice without the burden of prolonged litigation,” stated Judge Chakravarthi.
DLSA Secretary Syed Ziyauddin highlighted the success of the Guntur district Lok Adalat, citing the settlement of 908 civil disputes and approximately 9,700 criminal cases, securing the district’s top ranking in civil case settlements and second place overall in Andhra Pradesh. The DLSA had constituted 41 benches across the district to facilitate the resolution of cases.
The successful resolution of this case underscores the crucial role of Lok Adalats in providing timely and effective justice to citizens across Andhra Pradesh.
