Thu Sep 11 23:20:00 UTC 2025: **Tigers Maul Yankees, Gleyber Torres Shines in Return to Yankee Stadium**

**NEW YORK** – The Detroit Tigers continued their dominant performance against the New York Yankees, securing an 11-1 victory on Wednesday and winning the season series for the first time since 2011. The game was highlighted by a stellar performance from former Yankee Gleyber Torres, who drove in two runs to give the Tigers the lead.

Torres, who received a standing ovation from Yankees fans in his return to the Bronx on Tuesday, made them regret their cheers by delivering a key hit in the fifth inning, breaking a scoreless tie against Yankees starter Carlos Rodón. After Torres’ hit, Riley Greene, Kerry Carpenter, and Colt Keith each blasted two-run home runs, contributing to a nine-run onslaught against the struggling Yankees bullpen.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch acknowledged the warm welcome Torres received, stating, “It’s hard to come into this building and get cheered by the fans here from the other side.”

Starting pitcher Jack Flaherty rebounded from a series of inconsistent outings, pitching five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, allowing only two hits and a walk.

The victory, coupled with the Kansas City Royals’ win over the Cleveland Guardians, gives the Tigers a commanding 9.5-game lead in the American League Central with 16 games remaining. Their magic number to clinch their first division title since 2014 is now eight.

The Tigers (84-62) will look to complete the series sweep against the Yankees on Thursday.
