**India Secures Historic Third Place at CAFA Nations Cup with Penalty Shootout Win Over Oman**
**BISHKEK, KYRGYZSTAN – June 2023** – In a stunning display of resilience and determination, the Indian national football team, led by manager Khalid Jamil, claimed third place at the CAFA Nations Cup with a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Oman. This marks India’s debut appearance at the Central Asian tournament and their first-ever win against Oman in 11 meetings.
The match, held in Bishkek, saw Oman dominate for the majority of regulation time. Oman took the lead in the 56th minute after Al Ghussaini teed up Al Yahmadi who finished superbly. India responded in the 80th minute when Udanta Singh headed home a long throw from Rahul Bheke.
After a tense extra time period that saw Oman reduced to ten men, the match went to penalties. Lallianzuala Chhangte, Jithin MS, and Rahul Bheke converted their spot-kicks for India, while Gurpreet Singh Sandhu saved a crucial penalty from Al Yahmadi to secure the victory.
“This is a proud moment for Indian football,” said Khalid Jamil. “The team showed incredible character and fighting spirit to overcome a tough opponent. This victory is a testament to their hard work and dedication.”
