**Odisha Madrasa Tragedy: Five Minors Arrested in Connection with Boy’s Murder**
**Bhubaneswar, September 7, 2025** – Five minor students of a madrasa in Odisha’s Nayagarh district have been arrested in connection with the death of a 12-year-old boy whose body was found in a septic tank. Police investigations revealed a disturbing motive behind the alleged murder.
The incident occurred on September 2nd at a madrasa within the Ranpur police station limits. According to Nayagarh Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Subhas Chandra Panda, the victim, who hailed from Badamba in Cuttack district, had allegedly threatened to expose the sexual abuse of junior students by senior inmates.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim had been sexually abused by a senior inmate for the past six months and was even the target of a previous murder attempt on August 31st.
“Initially, it appeared to be an accident,” stated ASP Panda. “However, evidence emerged indicating the boy was physically tortured and killed.” Police learned that the victim was allegedly sodomized by two senior boys before being strangled to death and dumped in the septic tank.
The five accused, aged between 12 and 15, have been taken into custody. Three have been booked on murder charges, one for murder and under the POCSO Act, and another one only under the POCSO Act. All have been produced before a court and subsequently shifted to a juvenile correctional facility in Angul.
The case has been registered under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), murder charge and POCSO Act, highlighting the severity of the alleged crimes. The investigation is ongoing.
