*HYDERABAD, September 6, 2025* – South Central Railway (SCR) has announced a detailed plan to manage the anticipated surge in passenger traffic at Secunderabad station during the upcoming festive season, which includes Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath Puja. The station, which typically sees 1.3 lakh passengers daily, expects numbers to exceed two lakh during the holiday period.
In light of ongoing redevelopment and increased train services, SCR is taking several measures to mitigate congestion and improve passenger flow. Key components of the plan include:
* **Designated Holding Areas:** Two waiting areas will be established on Platform 1 (Gate No. 2 and 5) with a capacity of 1,500 passengers, and one on Platform 10 (Gate No. 8) for 1,125 passengers.
* **Improved Access and Parking:** Passengers arriving by car or taxi are encouraged to use Platform 10, which offers better connectivity via lifts and approach roads. A new basement parking facility for 200 cars is now operational on this side.
* **Traffic Management:** Foot overbridge landings will operate on a one-way system during peak hours (4 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.) when passenger flow exceeds 10,000 per hour.
* **Enhanced Support:** Additional help desks and automatic ticket vending machines will be deployed, along with extra staff to assist passengers.
* **Train Diversions:** Some trains may be diverted via the Sanathnagar-Ammuguda-Maula Ali-Cherlapalli section, with added stops at Cherlapalli. Passengers are encouraged to use the RailOne App for real-time train information.
“These measures are designed to ensure a smooth and safe travel experience for all passengers during this busy festive period,” said SCR chief PRO A. Sridhar.
SCR is also coordinating with the Government Railway Police, City Police, and Road Transport Corporation, and a 24/7 control room will be established for continuous monitoring. The changes will go into effect in the last week of September.
