**Vijayawada, September 5, 2025** – In response to a series of unexplained deaths in Thurakapalem village, Guntur Rural mandal, Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has ordered comprehensive health screenings for all residents. The directive, issued on Thursday, September 4, 2025, instructs officials to conduct tests for kidney function, blood sugar levels, and blood pressure.

The Minister held a review meeting with key health officials, including Special Chief Secretary (Health and Medical) M.T. Krishna Babu, Commissioner (Health and Family Welfare) Veerapandian, and Director of Medical Education (DME) G. Raghunandan.

Blood samples from all villagers have already been collected by special teams and dispatched to the Government Medical College lab in Guntur for analysis. Minister Yadav emphasized the need for swift action based on the test results.

A major concern highlighted during the meeting was a delay in the initial assessment of the situation in Thurakapalem. Officials admitted the existing surveillance system lacks a proper mechanism for ground-level medical staff to promptly report and analyze all deaths. The Health Minister called for immediate changes to the department’s surveillance mechanism to prevent similar delays in the future.

DME Raghunandan reported that there were 10 deaths each in July and August, and three deaths in September. The results of the collected blood samples are still pending, but he assured the public that the situation in the village is currently under control.

This action comes amidst increasing scrutiny of public health infrastructure and monitoring in rural areas.
