**Valkyries’ Veronica Burton: Most Improved, or All-WNBA Material?**
**SAN FRANCISCO, CA –** Veronica Burton, point guard for the San Francisco Valkyries, is making a strong case for both the WNBA’s Most Improved Player and an All-WNBA selection in her breakout season. After a relatively quiet year as a reserve in Connecticut, Burton has blossomed into the Valkyries’ indispensable leader, starting every game and dominating nearly every statistical category.
While the Most Improved Player award seems a certainty, some are arguing that it undersells her impact. As the floor general for the expansion Valkyries, a team exceeding all expectations and surging towards the playoffs, Burton is not just improved – she’s elite.
“Hell yeah,” Valkyries coach Natalie Nakase said when asked if Burton deserves All-WNBA consideration. “She’s not just improved, she should be All-WNBA with the numbers she’s putting up.”
The competition for All-WNBA is fierce. Seven superstars are near locks. Among guards, Burton faces stiff competition from other star guards.
Despite these challenges, Burton’s contributions to the Valkyries are undeniable. She averages 12 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game, leading the team in most major statistical categories, including an astounding 25 blocks for a 5’9″ guard. Her consistency has been crucial for a team dealing with rotating lineups and injuries.
Since the All-Star break, Burton’s shooting has been exceptional, hitting 44.4% from the field, 40.2% from three-point range, and 92.8% from the free-throw line. Highlights include a 30-point, 7-rebound, 7-assist performance against Washington, and a 24-point, 14-assist game against Phoenix.
Burton credits her success to the confidence instilled by her coaches and teammates, and the opportunities afforded to her.
Whether she ultimately secures an All-WNBA spot remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Veronica Burton has transcended the label of a “feel-good story.” She’s a force to be reckoned with.
