Tue Sep 02 16:00:00 UTC 2025: **Pegula and Sabalenka Dominate, Secure US Open Quarterfinal Berths**
**NEW YORK** – Jessica Pegula continued her dominant run at the US Open, dispatching fellow American Ann Li in a swift 6-1, 6-2 victory on Sunday to secure her second consecutive quarterfinal appearance at Flushing Meadows. The No. 4 seed, a 2024 US Open runner-up, has yet to drop a set in the tournament and attributed her strong performance to a resurgence in her game.
“Probably the best match, honestly, I’ve played since, like, before Wimbledon,” Pegula said, highlighting her improved form after a shaky lead-up to the tournament. “I was just hitting the ball, doing everything well, executing my strategy very well and got through it pretty quick.”
Meanwhile, Aryna Sabalenka, last year’s US Open champion, also cruised into the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Cristina Bucsa. Sabalenka’s victory not only secured her spot in the next round but also guarantees she will retain the World No. 1 ranking after the tournament. Her impressive run marks her 12th consecutive major quarterfinal appearance or better, the longest streak by a woman since Serena Williams’ 16 straight from 2000 to 2005. She also achieved a rare feat, reaching the quarterfinals without dropping a set in all four majors this year, a first since Venus Williams in 1998. Notably, Sabalenka has won 95% of service games this week (38 of 40), highest percentage in the women’s field.
Sabalenka is set to face 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in a highly anticipated quarterfinal clash. Vondrousova overcame 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in a hard-fought match, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, powered by 13 aces.
Pegula’s next opponent will be Barbora Krejcikova, who battled through a grueling three-set match against Taylor Townsend, saving eight match points in the second set before winning 1-6, 7-6 (13), 6-3. Krejcikova had also fought off 10th-seeded American Emma Navarro in 2½ hours in the third round.
