**BLACK ROCK CITY, NV** – A homicide investigation is underway at the Burning Man arts and music festival after an unidentified man was found dead Saturday night, according to the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded to a report of a deceased man at the event’s campsite around 9:14 p.m., finding him “lying in a pool of blood,” said Sheriff Jerry Allen in a statement.

The man’s identity remains unknown, and the cause of death is currently under investigation. The body has been transported to the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. The discovery occurred as the annual burning of the “Man” sculpture was commencing.

Law enforcement, including the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office forensic science division and rangers from the Bureau of Land Management, are on scene. Sheriff Allen stated that participants in the area have been interviewed and a significant law enforcement presence will remain until the scene is released.

“Although this act appears to be a singular crime, all participants should always be vigilant of their surroundings and acquaintances,” Sheriff Allen said. He added that more information will be released as the investigation progresses, but emphasized the need to preserve the integrity of the complicated investigation within the temporary “city” of Black Rock City.

Burning Man organizers have acknowledged the incident and offered resources and support to attendees. “If you are in Black Rock City, do not interfere with law enforcement activity,” the organizers said in a statement. “The safety and well-being of our community are paramount.”

The Burning Man festival, which began on August 24th and concludes on Monday, attracts tens of thousands of attendees to the Black Rock Desert annually.
