Sun Aug 03 03:20:27 UTC 2025: ## News Article: Ukrainian Drone Strike Sparks Massive Fire at Russian Oil Depot in Sochi

**Sochi, Russia – August 3, 2025 (The Hindu)** – A large fire broke out at an oil depot in Sochi, Russia, early Sunday morning following a suspected Ukrainian drone attack, according to regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev. Over 120 firefighters are battling the blaze, which engulfed a fuel tank with a capacity of 2,000 cubic meters.

Flights have been temporarily suspended at Sochi’s airport for safety reasons, according to Rosaviatsia, the Russian civil aviation authority.

While Reuters was unable to independently verify the reports, the attack, which targeted the Adler district of Sochi, marks a relatively rare instance of targeting within the city limits. Sochi hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics.

According to Kondratyev, this attack is the latest in a series of Ukrainian strikes on infrastructure within Russia deemed vital to Moscow’s war efforts. Late last month, a woman was killed in Adler in a previous drone attack.

The Krasnodar region, where Sochi is located, is home to the Ilsky refinery, a frequent target of Ukrainian drone attacks.

Separately, the governor of Russia’s Voronezh region reported that a woman was injured in a Ukrainian drone strike that also caused several fires. At the same time, Russia launched a missile attack on Kyiv, according to the Ukrainian capital’s military administration.
