Sun Jul 06 19:40:00 UTC 2025: **Koivun Poised to Launch PGA Tour Career at John Deere Classic**

**Silvis, IL** – All eyes are on amateur standout Jackson Koivun as he enters the final round of the John Deere Classic just four shots off the lead. The World No. 1 amateur, already touted as one of golf’s next big stars, finds himself in contention at a tournament known for launching the careers of young players.

This year’s John Deere Classic boasts a stronger field than usual, attracting big names like Rickie Fowler and Max Homa. Despite the presence of seasoned veterans, the tournament’s history of producing first-time winners and providing opportunities for promising amateurs remains a central storyline.

Koivun, who earned his PGA Tour card through PGA Tour University Accelerated, has already impressed in limited Tour starts. After a solid opening round, he fired a bogey-free 64 on Friday to surge up the leaderboard. While he faced some challenges in the windy conditions on Saturday, he carded a three-under 68.

The Auburn University standout is focused on continuing his climb up the leaderboard on Sunday. A victory would place him in rare company, joining the likes of Scott Verplank and Phil Mickelson as amateur winners on the PGA Tour since 1985.

“I’m just trying to climb up the leaderboard as much as I can every day,” Koivun said.

While defending champion Davis Thompson leads the field, the spotlight is on Koivun.

With nothing to lose and everything to gain, Koivun has the opportunity to make a statement and establish himself as a force to be reckoned with on the PGA Tour. The John Deere Classic, with its history of nurturing young talent, could be the perfect stage for him to begin his rise.
