**New Delhi, July 2, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed today for a week-long diplomatic tour spanning five nations across the Global South: Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia. Before emplaning for Accra, Ghana, Modi stated that the trip is aimed at strengthening cooperation among emerging economies and advancing the priorities of the Global South. He highlighted the upcoming BRICS summit in Rio De Janeiro as a key opportunity to forge a “balanced multipolar world order.”
The Prime Minister’s first stop is Ghana, where he will hold talks with President John Dramani Mahama, focusing on investment, energy, health, security, capacity building, and development partnerships. He will also address the Ghanaian Parliament.
Next, Modi will travel to Trinidad and Tobago, marking the 180th anniversary of Indian indentured laborers’ arrival. Discussions with Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar will aim to “rejuvenate the special bonds of ancestry and kinship.”

The BRICS summit in Rio De Janeiro on July 6 and 7 is a pivotal event. Modi will participate in bilateral meetings and advocate for a “more peaceful, equitable, just, democratic and balanced multipolar world order.” Following the summit, he will travel to Brasilia for a State visit, focusing on strengthening ties with Brazil and advancing Global South priorities alongside President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
