Wed Jul 02 00:20:00 UTC 2025: ## West Bengal Braces for More Rain as Monsoon Shows No Sign of Relenting

**Kolkata, July 10, 2024:** West Bengal continues to be drenched in monsoon rains, with the Alipore Meteorological Department forecasting another spell of heavy rainfall starting this Friday and lasting through the weekend. While a slight respite is expected on Wednesday and Thursday, the weather office warns that the downpour will resume, particularly impacting coastal and western districts of South Bengal.

The low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is currently situated over Gangetic West Bengal and is expected to move slowly towards the west and northwest, heading towards Odisha and Jharkhand. This will contribute to the renewed heavy rainfall.

**South Bengal on Alert:** Heavy rain is predicted for the weekend in coastal districts and the western regions of South Bengal. The forecast includes a week of overcast skies, with the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kilometers per hour. Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia districts are likely to experience scattered heavy rainfall on Saturday and Sunday. Purulia, Bankura, and East and West Burdwan districts are also under a heavy rain alert for Sunday.

**Fishermen Warned:** In light of the turbulent conditions expected in the Bay of Bengal due to the low pressure, fishermen have been advised to refrain from venturing into the sea from Friday to Sunday.

**North Bengal to Receive Heavy Rainfall:** The northern districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar are also bracing for more heavy rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday. Alipurduar is expected to receive the most intense rainfall, while other districts will experience scattered showers with thunderstorms. Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar face a heavy rain alert on Friday, followed by Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and South Dinajpur on Saturday. Jalpaiguri is again under heavy rain warning for Sunday.

**Kolkata Sees Cloudy Skies and Intermittent Showers:** Kolkata will experience predominantly cloudy skies with the possibility of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms. Friday will see an increase in rainfall. The city’s minimum temperature today was recorded at 26.2 degrees Celsius, while Monday’s maximum temperature was 30.1 degrees Celsius. The air humidity is currently between 91 and 97 percent. The city has already received 17.8 millimeters of rainfall.

Residents are advised to stay updated on the weather forecast and take necessary precautions.
