**WASHINGTON, D.C.** – The Washington Mystics are reportedly engaged in trade talks involving second-year forward Aaliyah Edwards, according to a report from ESPN’s Alexa Philippou. The news comes as the Mystics’ recent draft success has impacted Edwards’ role on the team.
Edwards, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft after a stellar college career with the UConn Huskies, started 17 games for Washington last season, averaging 7.6 points and 21.8 minutes. However, with the emergence of rookies Sonia Citron (No. 3 overall) and Kiki Iriafen (No. 4 overall), both of whom have become starters this season, Edwards’ playing time and production have diminished. Her averages have dipped to 4.9 points and 14.1 minutes per game, and she hasn’t started a single contest this year.
The Mystics had an impressive 2025 draft, securing three of the top six picks. While Georgia Amoore, the No. 6 pick, is sidelined with a torn ACL suffered during training camp, Citron and Iriafen have quickly become key contributors. Iriafen’s rise to prominence has directly impacted Edwards’ place in the lineup.
According to Philippou’s report, multiple teams have reached out to the Mystics to inquire about Edwards’ availability, and Washington is actively listening to offers. Despite not yet fully realizing her potential in the WNBA, the two-time Olympian with Canada is considered a talented player who could benefit from a change of scenery. Teams seeking to bolster their frontcourt may find Edwards an appealing option. The Mystics have not commented publicly on the report.
