**Fluminense Stuns Inter Milan, Advances to Club World Cup Quarterfinals**

**Charlotte, NC –** In a stunning upset, Brazilian side Fluminense defeated Champions League runners-up Inter Milan 2-0 on Monday, securing their place in the Club World Cup quarterfinals. The victory came courtesy of an early goal from German Cano and a late strike from Hercules, sending shockwaves through the competition.

Cano opened the scoring just three minutes into the match, capitalizing on a deflected cross to head the ball past Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer. Fluminense continued to press, nearly doubling their lead on several occasions, but were denied by a combination of Sommer’s saves and a narrow offside call.

Inter Milan, despite controlling possession, struggled to break down Fluminense’s organized defense. Lautaro Martinez came closest to scoring for the Italian side, but his efforts were thwarted by Fluminense’s veteran goalkeeper, Fabio, and the post.

In the dying minutes of the game, Hercules sealed the victory for Fluminense with a composed finish from the edge of the box, sending the Brazilian fans into raptures.

“I’m very proud of my team and teammates,” said Fluminense captain Thiago Silva after the match. “We beat a top side in extremely hot conditions.”

Inter Milan coach Cristian Chivu praised his team’s effort but acknowledged that it “wasn’t our day.”

Fluminense will now face the winner of Monday’s later game between Manchester City and Al Hilal in the quarterfinals on Friday. Should Manchester City prevail, it would set up a rematch of the 2023 Club World Cup final.

Inter Milan’s elimination marks another disappointing result for the Italian side, who also suffered a heavy defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League final earlier this year.
