**Bengaluru, India – June 29, 2025** – Forest Department officials in Bengaluru have busted an illegal hunting operation near the Bannerghatta forest area, seizing the carcasses of deer and wild boar, along with a substantial quantity of deer meat. The operation, conducted on Sunday, followed instructions from Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre, acting on specific intelligence about illegal hunting activities.

A team of officials intercepted a vehicle near the Bannerghatta-Nice Road junction and discovered the carcasses of four spotted deer and one wild boar. The driver, identified as Pratap, 31, was arrested. Interrogation led authorities to a shed in C.K. Palya, where they found further evidence, including additional carcasses and approximately 74 kg of deer meat.

In total, the raid yielded the carcasses of nine deer and one wild boar. Authorities also seized one double-barrelled gun, one single-barrell gun, 10 cartridges, a motorcycle, and another car, indicating a well-organized operation.

The owner of the shed, Bhimappa, along with two other individuals, Balaraju and Ramesh, believed to be involved in storing and selling the deer meat, are currently at large. A case has been registered against the accused under the Wildlife Protection Act.

The operation was led by Chief Conservator of Forests Bengaluru Circle, S. Sivashankar, Bengaluru Urban Deputy Conservator of Forests N. Ravindra Kumar, and Assistant Conservator of Forests V. Ganesh. Minister Khandre has vowed to continue the crackdown on illegal hunting activities within the Bannerghatta forest area.
