**Belagavi, June 29, 2025:** In a move to bridge the gap between advanced scientific research and rural development, the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BLDE Society’s Sri Sangana Basava Mahaswamiji Pharmacy College in Vijayapura, Karnataka. The partnership will establish an AKRUTI (Advanced Knowledge and Rurban Technology Implementation) centre on the college campus.
The three-year agreement, finalized recently, will provide access to BARC’s innovative technologies to the college’s teachers, students, and the wider local community. The AKRUTI centre aims to act as a hub for demonstration, dissemination, and practical training in BARC technologies, with the goal of fostering entrepreneurship, self-reliance, and the development of local enterprises.
“This partnership in research will provide technology facilities to student entrepreneurs, teachers and farmers at low cost,” said Dr. Bharathi, Scientific Officer and Group Leader of AKRUTI’s Technology Transfer and Collaboration Division at BARC. “This will encourage self-employment along with skill development in rural areas. Plans have also been made to conduct awareness and training programmes in the villages of Vijayapura district to bring scientific solutions to rural areas.”
The AKRUTI centre will also offer internship opportunities, industry-related training, and visits to BARC for students and teachers. College Principal C. Mallikarjun Shetty hailed the agreement as a first for the country in linking BARC with a pharmacy college and pledged to disseminate the developed technologies to the farming community.
