**Hyderabad, Telangana – June 27, 2025** – South Central Railway (SCR) today announced record-breaking performance figures for the past three fiscal years, marking significant growth in both revenue and freight loading. The announcement comes as General Manager Arun Kumar Jain prepares to retire at the end of this month.
According to Chief Public Relations Officer A. Sridhar, SCR’s revenue climbed from ₹18,976 crore in 2022-23 to ₹20,569 crore in 2024-25. Freight loading also reached new heights, increasing from 131.8 million tonnes to 144.1 million tonnes over the same period, resulting in freight revenue growth from ₹13,051 crore to ₹13,864 crore. The passenger segment consistently generated over ₹5,000 crore in revenue annually.
The remarkable growth coincided with substantial infrastructure development. SCR added 960 km to its network through new lines, doubling, and tripling projects. Landmark projects included the commissioning of a 2.2 km rail flyover near Gudur and the zone’s first rail-under-rail structure near Kazipet. Total capital expenditure during this period amounted to ₹47,050 crore.
SCR also modernized its facilities, commissioning redeveloped stations at Begumpet, Karimnagar, and Warangal, along with 13 new cargo terminals. The state-of-the-art ₹413 crore Cherlapalli passenger terminal was completed, and the entire broad-gauge network was electrified. The fleet was expanded with 396 new electric locomotives, making SCR the second-largest electric loco-holding zone in the country, with a total of 1,268 locomotives.
Passenger services were enhanced with the introduction of eight Vande Bharat Express trains, 15 new express services, and 28 additional MMTS services. Safety improvements included the removal of 234 manned level crossings and the completion of 32 Road Over Bridges and 204 Road Under Bridges. Speed limits were increased to 130 kmph across 1,835 km of track.
Furthermore, 289 km of route was brought under automatic block signalling, and modern electronic interlocking systems were commissioned at 128 stations. Repair workshops exceeded targets, overhauling more than 8,800 coaches and 20,000 wagons in the last three years. Revenue from scrap disposal also saw a significant increase, rising from ₹391 crore to ₹501 crore.
In a press release, outgoing General Manager Arun Kumar Jain attributed the success to the collective effort and dedication of every member of the SCR organization. “I deeply value the commitment shown by our officers, supervisors, and frontline staff who have consistently risen to the occasion and delivered excellence in every sphere,” he stated. SCR also received numerous awards for energy conservation and performance efficiency from the Railway Board.
