Fri Jun 27 06:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Sri Lanka Dominates Bangladesh in Second Test, Poised for Series Win
**Colombo, Sri Lanka** – Sri Lanka tightened their grip on the second Test against Bangladesh at the Sinhalese Sports Club, leaving the visitors reeling at 115/6 at the close of play on Day Two. Bangladesh trail by 96 runs and face an uphill battle to avoid defeat.
Sri Lanka’s dominance was fueled by Pathum Nissanka’s masterful 158 and a rapid-fire 84 from Kusal Mendis, propelling the hosts to a commanding first innings total of 458 and a lead of 211.
Nissanka, resuming on 146 overnight, quickly reached his 150 before falling to Taijul Islam (5-131), who also dismissed captain Dhananjaya de Silva in the same over, sparking a brief comeback for Bangladesh. However, Kamindu Mendis (33) and Kusal Mendis counter-attacked, wresting back control for Sri Lanka before Nayeem Hasan (3-87) intervened.
Kusal Mendis then launched a blistering assault after reaching his half-century, smashing two sixes and a four off Nayeem’s bowling. His aggressive innings came to an end after a unfortunate run out on 84, as Taijul wrapped up the Sri Lankan innings.
Facing a daunting deficit, Bangladesh’s openers, Shadman Islam and Anamul Haque, showed early intent, scoring 28 runs in the first five overs. However, Asitha Fernando (3-51) struck on the stroke of second session, removing Anamul.
Bangladesh’s woes deepened after the break, with Shadman dismissed early. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque attempted to stabilize the innings, but Dhananjaya de Silva (2-13) removed both in quick succession. Prabath Jayasuriya (2-47) added to the damage, bowling Mushfiqur Rahim before Mehidy Hasan Miraz was dismissed LBW on the final ball of the day.
With only four wickets remaining, Bangladesh face a daunting task to stay in the match, while Sri Lanka are firmly on course for a series-clinching victory.
