**Hong Kong, June 27, 2025** – Esteemed Hong Kong writer and food critic Chua Lam passed away peacefully on June 25th at the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, surrounded by family and friends. He was 83 years old. The news was announced on his official Facebook page this afternoon.

Known for his wit, erudition, and love of gastronomy, Chua Lam was often referred to as one of the “Four Literary Talents of Hong Kong” alongside Jin Yong, Ni Kuang, and Huang Zhan, though he humbly considered Jin Yong to be the true master.

According to the Facebook post, in accordance with Chua Lam’s wishes, no funeral services will be held, and his remains have been cremated. The family expressed their gratitude for the public’s concern and support.

Following the passing of his wife, Chua Lam had sold his Kowloon City residence and moved into a serviced apartment, where he was cared for by an eight-person team, including doctors, nurses, and a housekeeper. Earlier this year, reports surfaced that he was in intensive care, but his secretary dismissed them as merely “old age ailments.”

Chua Lam’s legacy as a prolific writer, film producer, and gourmand will be fondly remembered in Hong Kong and beyond.
