Wed Jun 25 13:00:00 UTC 2025: **Ceasefire Holds Between Iran and Israel Amidst Conflicting Damage Assessments of US Strikes**

**The Hague, Netherlands** – A fragile ceasefire between Iran and Israel is reportedly holding, despite initial accusations of violations from both sides. The truce follows a series of US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, the effectiveness of which is now under intense scrutiny.

Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the damage inflicted on Iran’s nuclear program. An early US intelligence assessment, described by sources briefed on it, suggests the strikes only set back the program by months. However, President Trump, currently attending the NATO summit in the Netherlands, maintains the strikes caused “total obliteration,” although he conceded the initial intelligence was “inconclusive”.

Adding to the confusion, an Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson stated the nuclear installations were “badly damaged,” while the Israel Atomic Energy Commission claimed the US strike on the Fordow facility “destroyed the site’s critical infrastructure and rendered the enrichment facility inoperable.”

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte publicly lauded President Trump’s actions, stating the US has a unique responsibility to take action to secure peace and that the strikes “dealt a massive blow to Iran.” However, asked how iron-clad Article 5 is, Rutte dodged giving a clear answer and said he would never go into details about when Article 5 would be triggered.

Meanwhile, Iran’s parliament has voted to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), raising concerns about monitoring of its nuclear activities. The IAEA itself said the recent conflict “severely damaged several” of Iran’s nuclear sites.

The situation remains fluid, with questions lingering about the long-term impact of the strikes and the future of the Iran nuclear deal. Some reports suggest the US and Israel could have reset Iran’s program by several years, whilst others assess it only set them back months. The potential for renewed escalation remains high, particularly if diplomatic efforts fail.

President Trump drew criticism for comparing the strikes to the use of atomic bombs in Japan to end the Second World War.

In a separate development, Israel designated the Central Bank of Iran and other entities as terrorist organizations, further escalating tensions.
