Wed Jun 25 04:20:00 UTC 2025: **Angels’ First-Round Draft Picks Shine in Victory Over Red Sox**

**ANAHEIM, CA** – A strong showing from former first-round draft picks powered the Los Angeles Angels to a 9-5 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Monday night. Relievers Reid Detmers (2020, No. 10 overall) and Sam Bachman (2021, No. 9 overall) delivered crucial performances out of the bullpen, paving the way for an eighth-inning rally sparked by rookie second baseman Christian Moore (2023, No. 8 overall).

Detmers entered a bases-loaded jam in the seventh, managing to strike out two batters to escape unscathed. Bachman followed with a perfect eighth inning, showcasing the potential that made him a top pick. The Angels then took the lead in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly from Moore, followed by a bases-loaded walk from Taylor Ward and a two-run single from Travis d’Arnaud.

The Angels showcased their investment in the draft, fielding an impressive eight former first-rounders in the game, including Nolan Schanuel, Zach Neto, Ward, Jo Adell, and Mike Trout. It was a rare occurrence, marking the first time a team had at least eight of their former first-rounders in action since the Brewers did so in 1991, also against Boston.

Moore also stood out defensively, making a key catch in right field and contributing to a pivotal rundown play in the fifth.

“They were huge,” said acting manager Ray Montgomery. “Det coming into that situation right there, that was huge. And with Sammy…For him to get in that situation and handle it was good to see.”

Detmers has been on a tear recently, posting a 0.48 ERA with 29 strikeouts in his last 18 2/3 innings. Bachman, who recently returned from injury, has also impressed, with a 1.80 ERA since his call-up.

The Angels’ patience at the plate also contributed to the win, as they drew 11 walks and were hit by two pitches, capitalizing on the Red Sox’s pitching struggles.
