**Iranian Missiles Intercepted Over Qatar, Sparking Condemnation and Denials**
Doha, Qatar – Qatar’s air defense systems intercepted several Iranian ballistic missiles fired toward the US-run Al-Udeid Air Base in Doha. The Qatari defense ministry confirmed the interceptions, stating there were no casualties. The incident led to the temporary closure of Qatari airspace, causing flight diversions from Doha’s busy international airport.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attack. The country also said it reserves the right to respond following the Iranian attack. Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari labeled the attack “a flagrant violation of the State of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace, as well as of international law.”
However, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council issued a contradictory statement, claiming the operation was not directed at Qatar and posed no threat to the nation or its people. The statement affirmed Iran’s commitment to maintaining “warm and historic relations with Qatar.”
Iran’s statement also claimed the missile strike was a retaliatory response to a U.S. attack on Iranian nuclear facilities and sites. “The number of missiles used in this successful operation was equal to the number of bombs the United States used in its assault on Iran’s nuclear facilities,” the statement read. Some reports suggest Iran informed Qatar in advance of the strike to minimize potential casualties.
