**London, UK** – Mick Ralphs, the legendary guitarist, songwriter, and co-founder of the iconic rock bands Bad Company and Mott the Hoople, has passed away at the age of 81. He died after suffering a debilitating stroke in 2016 that left him bedridden.
Ralphs’ death marks the end of an era for rock music. His distinctive guitar work and songwriting prowess were instrumental in shaping the sound of two influential bands. He is survived by his partner, Susie Chavasse, his two children, three step-children, bandmates Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke, and countless fans worldwide.
Paul Rodgers, the vocalist of Bad Company and former bandmate in Free, expressed his profound sadness. “Our Mick has passed. My heart just hit the ground,” Rodgers said in a statement. “He has left us with exceptional songs and memories. He was my friend, my songwriting partner, an amazing and versatile guitarist who had the greatest sense of humor.”

Rodgers and Ralphs first met in 1971. After a pivotal jam session, Ralphs made the bold decision to leave Mott the Hoople and co-found Bad Company with Rodgers. The band quickly solidified its lineup with the addition of Boz Burrell and Kirke. Under the management of Led Zeppelin’s Peter Grant, Bad Company achieved meteoric success as the first band signed to Swan Song Records.
Their self-titled 1974 debut album went five times platinum, spawning classic rock anthems like “Can’t Get Enough,” “Movin’ On,” “Ready For Love,” “Rock Steady,” and the title track “Bad Company.”
Ralphs’ final performance with Bad Company was on October 29, 2016, at London’s O2 Arena, just days before his stroke.
