**Middle East Conflict Disrupts Air Travel: Airlines Reroute Flights as Tensions Soar**

**Washington D.C.** – Air travel across the Middle East is facing significant disruption as escalating conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States forces airlines to suspend or reroute flights. The changes come after the United States bombed Iranian nuclear facilities, joining Israel in its ongoing war on Tehran.

Several major airlines, including Emirates, FlyDubai, and Qatar Airways, have temporarily suspended flights to destinations including Tehran, Baghdad, Basra, Damascus, and Tel Aviv. Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways has suspended its Abu Dhabi-Tel Aviv route until July 15. The airlines are citing passenger and crew safety as their highest priority and promising to assist affected travelers.

The airspace over Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Israel has seen a dramatic decrease in traffic, with neighboring countries also impacted. The disruptions stem from recent attacks and retaliatory strikes between Iran and Israel, intensified by US military action. More than 400 Iranians have been killed and at least 3,056 others wounded, while at least 24 Israelis have been killed in Iranian retaliatory strikes since June 13.

“This isn’t new territory. Whether it’s airspace closures, geopolitical flashpoints, or unexpected security escalations, the Gulf carriers have developed the operational maturity to respond with speed and precision,” said aviation analyst Alex Macheras.

The Middle East serves as a crucial transit corridor for flights between Europe and Asia. With Russian and Ukrainian airspace already restricted, the disruption is forcing airlines to take longer, more costly routes. Analysts say rerouting flights could result in increased flight times, fuel consumption, and crew costs, potentially leading to higher ticket prices for passengers.

However, airlines are adapting. Saudi Arabian airspace has become the new “backbone” of the region, absorbing diverted east-west traffic. Flights over Afghanistan have also seen a significant increase. Some airlines are rerouting north via the Caspian Sea or south via the Red Sea and Saudi Arabia.

Global aviation safety bodies have issued alerts, warning of increased risks due to missile and drone activity. The situation revives memories of past aviation tragedies in the region, including the 1988 downing of an Iranian passenger plane by a US naval ship and the accidental downing of a Ukrainian airliner by Iranian missiles in 2020.
