Mon Jun 23 16:20:00 UTC 2025: **Summary:**

NHL teams each have unique strategies for evaluating prospects in the first round of the NHL Draft. Factors like character, two-way play, position, size, skating ability, maturity, injury history, and performance at the NHL Scouting Combine are weighted differently by various organizations. The Flyers, who have three picks in the first round of the 2025 draft, including the 6th overall, aim to select the best player available regardless of position, although positions like center and defenseman are usually looked at more favorably. They are unlikely to trade up from their 6th overall pick.

**Flyers Eye “Best Player Available” Approach with Loaded 2025 Draft**

Philadelphia, PA – With seven picks in the top 48 of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, including the coveted 6th overall selection, the Philadelphia Flyers are poised to significantly bolster their prospect pool. However, determining exactly how the Flyers will use the picks at their disposal is still something that remains to be seen.

The Flyers are set to use those picks, including the 6th overall pick on “the best player available,” Flyers Vice President and Assistant General Manager Brent Flahr said. The team is in a unique position with three first round picks at 6th overall, 22nd overall, and 31st overall.

“We feel like we are in a good position with our picks,” Flahr said. “We can do a lot of different things. We’ll have options.”

While the Flyers are focused on taking the best player available, Flyers President of Hockey Operations Keith Jones indicated that he doesn’t think the team will try to trade up into the top two to four picks in the draft.

“You never know what can happen, but I probably don’t see us moving up. In this year’s Draft, there’s the defenseman, [Matthew] Schaeffer who is probably going to be picked first. The Islanders aren’t going to trade that pick, realistically. After that, there’s several players we like about the same. We’re pretty confident we’ll be able to get one of them at number six. So there probably won’t be a need to move up.”

With the draft still a year away, there are many names that are being thrown around as possibilities for the Flyers. A few players that could possibly be taken within the top ten are Michael Misa (center), Porter Martone (wing), and Anton Frondell (center).

Flyers management, like other NHL organizations, emphasize their own internal rankings and evaluations when making draft selections. This can sometimes lead to unexpected choices. With the draft still a year away, it remains to be seen who the Flyers will select.
