**PARIS** – Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of the former Shah of Iran, has offered to lead the country’s transition to democracy as international pressure mounts on the current regime. In an interview, Pahlavi called on Western powers to fully support regime change, suggesting military action against key regime targets and increased support for opposition groups through improved communication and backing for mass strikes.
Pahlavi, who has been in exile since the 1979 revolution, proposed amnesty for state officials who defect and join the opposition. He envisions a “secure platform” for dissidents to coordinate efforts towards a “free and democratic” society. He emphasizes that democratic options should be on the table, including the possibility of the re-establishment of a monarchy.
Pahlavi believes international economic sanctions, internal mismanagement, and recent military action, including U.S.-Israeli bombardments of critical nuclear facilities, have created an unprecedented opportunity for regime change. He called on world leaders to show unwavering support for the Iranian people and to reject any “lifeline” to the current regime, arguing that further negotiations are futile.
While acknowledging the divisions within the Iranian opposition, Pahlavi expressed confidence that the regime could collapse by the end of the year with sufficient international backing and popular uprising. He emphasized the need to treat those ousted fairly in a transition to democracy.
