Sun Jun 22 14:40:00 UTC 2025: **Pittsburgh Swelters Under First Heat Wave of 2025, Heat Advisories Issued**
PITTSBURGH, PA – The Pittsburgh area is experiencing its first heat wave of the summer, with temperatures expected to reach 90 degrees today for the first time this year. High humidity will make it feel like the upper 90s to 100 degrees this afternoon.
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning and Heat Advisory for Western Pennsylvania, both in effect through 8 PM Wednesday. These advisories are due to the combination of high heat and humidity.
The new work week starts with back-to-back Severe Weather Alert Days. Near-record highs are expected on Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures in the mid-90s and a heat index pushing into the triple digits.
The stagnant air caused by the heat and humidity has also led to a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington, and Westmoreland counties for Sunday and Monday. Residents with respiratory concerns are advised to limit outdoor activity.
Health officials urge everyone to take precautions against heat stress, including limiting strenuous activity in direct sunlight, staying hydrated, taking breaks in air conditioning, walking pets during cooler hours, and checking on neighbors.
High temperatures will remain in the 90s throughout the week, along with persistent humidity. Relief may come in the form of pop-up afternoon storms later in the week as a cold front approaches.
