**New Delhi, India -** The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has directed Air India to immediately remove three senior officials from their crew scheduling roles following the deadly plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12th. The crash, which claimed the lives of 272 people, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, prompted an investigation into the airline’s operations.
The DGCA cited repeated violations of crew scheduling and rostering regulations as the reason for the order, issued on June 20th. The aviation watchdog has also instructed the Tata Group-owned airline to initiate internal disciplinary action against the concerned officials, reportedly including a divisional vice president.
The ill-fated Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 passengers en route to London, crashed shortly after takeoff in Ahmedabad, impacting the BJ Medical College hostel complex due to technical issues. Only one passenger survived the devastating incident, which also resulted in the deaths of medical students and local residents.
Following the crash, Air India’s operational performance has come under increased scrutiny. The DGCA has issued a show-cause notice to the airline’s accountable manager, citing a spot check that revealed violations of duty regulations by flight crew. The airline has been given seven days to explain why enforcement action should not be taken.
