**University Teachers’ Association Condemns Government’s Handling of Faculty Promotions**

**TIRUCHI, June 20, 2025** – The Association of University Teachers (AUT) has voiced strong criticism of the Directorate of Collegiate Education’s inconsistent actions regarding the implementation of the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) for faculty members in aided colleges.

The AUT highlighted a perceived contradiction in the government’s approach. While an official communication on June 9th directed Regional Joint Directors to expedite the submission of updated CAS data, signaling a commitment to long-awaited promotions with monetary benefits, a subsequent communication on June 16th revealed that the government is challenging a favorable High Court judgment in the Supreme Court. This challenge, through a Special Leave Petition (SLP), aims to deny teachers CAS monetary benefits.

According to AUT General Secretary K. Raja, this action represents a “serious breach of trust” and undermines the rightful claims of teachers seeking career progression. The association is demanding the immediate withdrawal of the SLP and urging authorities to respect the High Court’s verdict.

“The Career Advancement Scheme is a statutory right, not a privilege,” the AUT stated in an official release. “Any attempt to delay or deny this right adversely affects the morale, dignity, and academic integrity of the teaching community.”

The controversy threatens to disrupt the academic environment, and the AUT is calling for swift action to resolve the situation and ensure that teachers receive the benefits they are entitled to under the Career Advancement Scheme.
