Fri Jun 20 15:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Barbara Walters: A Complicated Legacy Unveiled in New Documentary

**New York, NY** – A new documentary promises to offer an in-depth and unflinching look at the life and career of legendary broadcast journalist Barbara Walters, who passed away in 2022. “Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything,” premiering June 23 on Hulu and Disney+, explores Walters’ trailblazing journey from a young reporter fighting for recognition in a male-dominated industry to becoming a household name and one of the most influential interviewers in television history.

Directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Jackie Jesko, the film avoids a sanitized portrayal, delving into the complexities of Walters’ personality and personal life. “This isn’t a hagiography, and it was never intended to be,” Jesko told The Post, emphasizing the documentary’s commitment to exploring Walters’ “difficult” and “complicated” nature.

The documentary chronicles Walters’ rise through the ranks, including her groundbreaking role as the first woman to co-anchor a national news show, her tenures at “Today,” “20/20,” and “The View,” and her iconic interviews with some of the world’s most prominent figures. It also examines her friendship with controversial lawyer Roy Cohn, her tumultuous relationship with her daughter, and her reported rivalry with fellow journalist Diane Sawyer, fueled by perceived insecurities about beauty and professional standing.

The film features archival footage of Walters and interviews with a roster of prominent figures, including Oprah Winfrey, Connie Chung, Katie Couric, Joy Behar, Disney CEO Bob Iger, Bette Midler, and Monica Lewinsky. According to Jesko, Walters served as a roadmap for Oprah Winfrey and what it meant to be a woman in this industry.

While the documentary explores the vast majority of Walters’s life it ends with her retirement from “The View” in 2014, it does not delve into her declining health in the years leading up to her death. Jesko stated that her health was excluded from the film because they did not want to produce a ‘cradle to grave’ biography.

“Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything” promises to be a captivating and insightful exploration of a woman who shattered glass ceilings and redefined the landscape of broadcast journalism, leaving an indelible mark on American media.
