**FRISCO, TX** – The Dallas Stars have secured the future of their leading scorer, Matt Duchene, announcing a four-year contract extension that will keep the 34-year-old forward in Victory Green through the 2028-29 season. The deal is worth $18 million, carrying an average annual value of $4.5 million.
General Manager Jim Nill expressed his enthusiasm for the signing, stating, “We are thrilled to have Matt back with our organization. As our team’s leading scorer last season, he helped to solidify our forward group while also providing invaluable leadership off the ice and in the community.”
Duchene is coming off a stellar season where he led the Stars with 82 points (30 goals, 52 assists) in 82 games, setting a career-high in assists. His performance was the highest scoring season by a Star since Jason Robertson’s 109 points in the 2022-23 season. The veteran forward also reached several milestones, including skating in his 1,100th NHL game and recording his 500th career assist.
A consistent offensive threat throughout his 16-year career, Duchene has amassed 891 points in 1,138 regular-season games, ranking among the league’s top players since his debut in 2009. He has played for the Colorado Avalanche, Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Nashville Predators before joining the Stars. Duchene has also represented Canada on numerous occasions, winning gold medals at the 2014 Winter Olympics and the World Cup of Hockey, among others.
