**Mattancherry Nehru Memorial Town Hall Reopens After Extensive Renovation**
KOCHI, June 17, 2025 – The historic Mattancherry Nehru Memorial Town Hall has reopened its doors to the public after undergoing a significant renovation project funded by the Kochi Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and other sources. The ₹3.50 crore investment has transformed the 27,000-sq.ft facility into a modern, versatile space while preserving its original charm.
“The town hall has been renovated by making complete use of its space,” announced Mayor M. Anilkumar, highlighting the addition of two dining halls, a redesigned stage, and improved facilities. BPCL contributed ₹88 lakh through its corporate social responsibility fund for the project. The mayor emphasized that the gate and entry arch were renovated to maintain the building’s historical significance and aesthetic appeal.
The renovated town hall also features a revamped sound system, a 35,000-sq.ft. parking facility, and attention to lighting and flooring. The scheduled commissioning in April was delayed, but the refurbished facility is now ready to serve the community once more.
The Kochi Corporation expresses its hope that the public will fully utilize the renovated Mattancherry Nehru Memorial Town Hall, which had previously fallen into disrepair after being used as a temporary facility for COVID-19 patients. The rejuvenated hall is expected to once again be a popular venue for cultural programs and community events.
