**Chennai, June 14, 2025 (The Hindu)** – Recent rainfall in southern Tamil Nadu has contributed to rising water levels in key reservoirs, offering a positive outlook for the region’s water supply.
The Papanasam dam reported a water level of 124.95 feet, approaching its maximum capacity of 143 feet. The inflow was measured at 2622.81 cusecs, while the discharge remained at 1100 cusecs.
Similarly, the Manimuthar dam’s water level reached 93.20 feet out of a maximum of 118 feet, with an inflow of 242.43 cusecs and a discharge of 45 cusecs.
Rainfall data for the 24 hours ending at 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025, showed significant precipitation in several areas. Manjolai received 20 mm of rain, while Kakkachi recorded 27 mm. Nalumukku saw the highest rainfall at 35 mm, followed by Oothu with 31 mm. Other areas including Cheranmahadevi (2 mm), Nanguneri (4.40 mm) and Radhapuram (8 mm) also reported rainfall.
The rising water levels are expected to benefit agriculture and drinking water supply in the region.
