**Rockies Avoid Historic Low, Clinch Dramatic Win Against Giants**
DENVER – The Colorado Rockies narrowly avoided etching their name in baseball infamy Thursday, securing a thrilling 8-7 victory over the San Francisco Giants in a dramatic ninth-inning comeback. Orlando Arcia’s two-run single sealed the win, preventing the Rockies from claiming the outright worst start in modern MLB history.
The victory moves Colorado to 13-55, a record shared with the 1932 Boston Red Sox, who also won their 68th game. While aware of the looming historical footnote, the Rockies are focused on improving game-by-game.
“We look at it,” said Ryan McMahon. “I know it to a ‘T.’ I think we all do, man.”
After a disastrous 9-50 start, the Rockies have shown signs of improvement under interim manager Warren Schaeffer, going 4-5 in their last nine games.
“I think we are just playing better baseball,” McMahon stated. “As long as you focus on that when you are out in the field, the record takes care of itself. We can’t get it all back in one day. We have to take it pitch by pitch, day by day.”
McMahon, who walked and scored the winning run in the ninth, emphasized the team’s renewed focus. “You want to just focus on what you are doing every day when you get here and keep trying to win more games,” he said. “To do what we did today, not give up, keep fighting…You can remember we’ve come back from situations like this before and that it kind of helps you keep going.”
Arcia, a veteran with playoff experience from his time with the Brewers and Braves, echoed the sentiment. “We’re not focusing on what happened in the past,” said Arcia. “We’re taking it day by day. We’re just trying to look to the future. I told my people I came here to do a job, and to come out and play and help this team win however I can.” Arcia was acquired on May 28th after being released by Atlanta.
