**”Snow White” Rises From Box Office Slumber to Streaming Success on Disney+**
LOS ANGELES, CA – Disney’s live-action “Snow White,” starring Rachel Zegler, has defied its initial critical and commercial failures, finding a new audience and considerable success on Disney+.
The film, which premiered in theaters on March 21, 2025, was met with largely negative reviews, currently holding a 39% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie also underperformed at the box office, grossing approximately $205 million worldwide against a reported production budget of $240-270 million.
The production was not without controversy. Criticism arose surrounding the use of motion-capture technology for the Seven Dwarfs and the actors’ controversial political views.
However, since its debut on Disney+ on June 11, 2025, “Snow White” has experienced a remarkable turnaround. The film has quickly climbed to the top spot among movies on the platform, surpassing popular titles like “Lilo & Stitch” and “Captain America: Brave New World.”
Directed by Marc Webb from a script by Erin Cressida Wilson, “Snow White” features Zegler as Snow White, Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, Andrew Burnap as Jonathan, and Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman. The voice cast includes Jeremy Swift, Martin Klebba, and George Salazar as Doc, Grumpy, and Happy, respectively.
While the reasons for this shift in reception remain unclear, the film’s newfound streaming popularity suggests a resurgence in interest and a potential vindication for the reimagined classic.
