**UVA’s New Basketball Coach Inspired by Alumnus Rick Carlisle’s NBA Success**
**CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -** Ryan Odom, the new head men’s basketball coach at the University of Virginia, finds inspiration in the continued success of UVA alumnus Rick Carlisle, head coach of the Indiana Pacers. Carlisle, a 1984 UVA graduate and former co-captain of the Cavaliers’ Final Four team, is currently leading the Pacers in the NBA Finals, tied 1-1 with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Odom, who has a long history with Carlisle dating back to his childhood when Carlisle occasionally babysat him, recently visited Carlisle before a pivotal playoff game. “He’s one of the best to ever do it,” Odom said, impressed by Carlisle’s ability to adapt his coaching style and achieve success across different eras of basketball.
Carlisle, who has amassed over 990 regular-season wins and 84 playoff victories, ranks among the NBA’s all-time coaching elite. A potential NBA title with the Pacers would mark his second championship with a different franchise, further solidifying his legacy.
“Everywhere he’s been, success has followed,” Carlisle told reporters regarding Odom’s hiring. “And I don’t see this being any different.” Odom hopes to emulate Carlisle’s winning formula and bring similar success to the UVA basketball program.
Carlisle’s ties to UVA remain strong, with frequent visits to his alma mater and a daughter currently attending the University. Odom believes Carlisle’s story is a powerful success story for UVA. “We all want to sell success stories of our University, and certainly coach Carlisle is one of those,” said Odom.
