**Ahmedabad, India** – Amidst the tragic aftermath of yesterday’s Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, where 265 lives were lost, including those in the residential building struck by the aircraft, two extraordinary stories of survival have emerged.
Vishwas Kumar, the sole passenger who boarded the ill-fated Air India Flight AI-171, miraculously survived the crash. He recounted the horrifying moments leading up to the disaster. “As the plane sped down the runway, something felt off,” he said from his hospital bed, where he is recovering from severe burns to his left hand. “Everything stopped for a few seconds, then the green and white lights came on, and the pilot seemed to push for takeoff. Suddenly, we crashed straight into a building.” Kumar believes he was shielded by his seat as the lower section of the plane impacted the building, allowing him to escape through a broken door amidst the flames. He added how he was horrified at seeing the air hostess and other passengers burning. He has since met Prime Minister Modi who visited to check on his condition.
Meanwhile, a woman named Bhumi Chauhan experienced a completely different twist of fate. Living in London with her husband, Bhumi was returning from India after a holiday. Due to a significant traffic jam, she arrived at Ahmedabad Airport ten minutes late and was denied boarding. This delay proved to be her salvation. “My flight was scheduled for 1:10 PM, and I needed to be at the airport before 12:10 PM. The traffic was terrible, and I didn’t reach until 12:20 PM,” she explained. “I couldn’t check in, and security told me to go back. Initially, I was upset about missing my flight. But now, I realize it was a blessing in disguise.”
Upon learning of the crash, Bhumi was overcome with shock. “I was on my way home from the airport when I found out the flight I was supposed to be on had crashed. I was trembling and speechless,” she said. “I believe I was spared due to some good karma. I pray for the souls of those who perished in this horrific accident.”
The Air India crash, involving a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, is one of the most devastating accidents involving the aircraft model. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash. The tragedy has left the city of Ahmedabad in mourning, highlighting the fragility of life and the unpredictable nature of fate.
