**GLAAD Report: Anti-LGBTQ Incidents Remain High, Transgender Community Disproportionately Targeted**

WASHINGTON – A new report from LGBTQ advocacy group GLAAD reveals that anti-LGBTQ incidents remain a significant issue across the United States. The report, based on data collected between May 1, 2024, and May 1, 2025, documented 932 incidents ranging from hate speech to violence.

While this represents a 20% decrease from the previous year’s 1,173 incidents, it’s a substantial 80% increase compared to the 521 incidents recorded in GLAAD’s inaugural report in 2023. The report highlights a disturbing trend: over half of the incidents targeted transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals.

“These shifting tides in hate show what extremists like to focus on at the moment, this goes to show that they are really are kind of beholden to the new cycle of the day,” said Sarah Moore, an analyst of anti-LGBTQ extremism at GLAAD.

One of the most notable findings was the decrease in incidents targeting drag performers, dropping from 185 to 83. However, this decrease coincided with an increase in incidents targeting state and local governments, educators, and librarians. These incidents often involved targeting city council officials, political candidates, legislators, and educators who support the LGBTQ community.

GLAAD emphasizes that the reported incidents are likely just a fraction of the total anti-LGBTQ hate occurring in the U.S. This report defines anti-LGBTQ incidents as both criminal and noncriminal acts of harassment, threats, vandalism, and assault motivated by anti-LGBTQ hate and extremism.

With June marking Pride Month, GLAAD acknowledges the heightened risk of incidents during this time. While cautioning against complacency, the organization emphasizes the LGBTQ community’s resilience and encourages continued pride as a form of protest and resistance.
