Toyota has launched mild-hybrid variants of the popular Fortuner and Fortuner Legender SUVs, marking the debut of mild-hybrid technology in the full-size SUV segment. The new models promise improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and enhanced performance, thanks to a 48-volt mild-hybrid system paired with the existing 2.8-litre diesel engine.

The mild-hybrid system provides a torque boost and optimizes fuel economy through features like smart idle start/stop. While power output remains unchanged, the system leverages a small battery pack and electric motor to deliver a short 16 PS and 65 Nm output boost for a more effortless driving experience. The battery pack regenerates during deceleration.

Externally, the new variants feature a subtle ‘Neo Drive’ badge. However, interior upgrades include a 360-degree camera (dealership fitment), a wireless phone charger for the Fortuner (dealership fitment), and a multi-terrain select system.

**Pricing (Ex-Showroom, Pan-India):**

* **Toyota Fortuner Mild-Hybrid:** Rs 44.72 lakh
* **Toyota Fortuner Legender Mild-Hybrid:** Rs 50.09 lakh

Bookings are now open, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the third week of June. The Fortuner range now spans from Rs 35.37 lakh to Rs 51.94 lakh, while the Legender ranges from Rs 44.11 lakh to Rs 50.09 lakh.

The new Fortuner and Legender models retain key features like leather upholstery, an 8-inch touchscreen, powered front seats, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, and a JBL sound system. Notably, the ventilated front seats have been removed, likely due to the placement of the mild-hybrid system’s battery pack. Safety features include 7 airbags, ESC, hill start assist, and parking sensors.

The Toyota Fortuner and Legender compete with rivals like the MG Gloster, Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kodiaq, and the upcoming MG Majestor.
