*By Matt Levine, Newsweek Contributing Writer*
DALLAS – The Dallas Mavericks, fresh off an unexpected draft lottery win that secured Duke standout Cooper Flagg, are poised for a potentially transformative offseason. After trading Luka Doncic, the Mavericks are looking to build a new contending team around Anthony Davis and the newly drafted Flagg. With Daniel Gafford potentially on the move due to his desired salary upgrade, trade rumors are swirling.
Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus has proposed a three-team trade that would send two-time All-Star Jrue Holiday from the Boston Celtics to Dallas. The proposed trade involves sending Daniel Gafford, PJ Washington, Drew Timme, and a package of trade exceptions and draft picks to Boston and the Brooklyn Nets.
*Mavericks receive: Jrue Holiday and a $3 million trade exception (Olivier-Maxence Prosper)*
*Celtics receive: Daniel Gafford, PJ Washington, Drew Timme, a $32.4 million trade exception (Holiday), a $2.5 million trade exception (Xavier Tillman Sr.), a $2.4 million trade exception (Neemias Queta), and a $2.2 million trade exception (Porziņģis)*
*Nets receive: Kristaps Porziņģis, Dwight Powell, Olivier-Maxence Prosper, Xavier Tillman Sr., Neemias Queta (from Celtics), a 2026 protected first-round pick and a 2027 first-round pick swap*
With Kyrie Irving potentially sidelined for a significant portion of the next season due to injury, the acquisition of Holiday would provide a much-needed offensive playmaker and solid two-way presence.
The Celtics, looking to shed salary, would receive valuable assets in Gafford and Washington, while the Nets would acquire an expiring contract in Porziņģis and future draft capital.
