Sun Jun 01 12:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Iowa Senator Ernst Sparks Outrage with “We All Are Going to Die” Remark at Town Hall

**Parkersburg, IA** – Iowa Senator Joni Ernst (R) faced a barrage of criticism at a town hall meeting in Butler County, Iowa, on Friday over her support for President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” The contentious session culminated in widespread outrage after Ernst responded to concerns about proposed Medicaid cuts by stating, “Well, we all are going to die.”

The town hall, initially amicable, quickly turned hostile as constituents pressed Ernst on the sweeping legislation. Many attendees voiced concerns over the bill’s proposed cuts to social safety net programs, particularly Medicaid and SNAP. Ernst defended the bill, arguing that it would only affect ineligible recipients.

“When you’re arguing about illegals that are receiving Medicaid benefits, 1.4 million (people) … they are not eligible so they will be coming off,” Ernst stated, prompting someone in the crowd to shout, “People are going to die.”

Ernst’s dismissive response, “Well, we all are going to die. For heaven’s sakes, folks,” triggered immediate and widespread condemnation from the audience.

The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” faces mounting scrutiny for its proposed tax cuts favoring the wealthy, increased national debt, and controversial fees on asylum seekers. The bill is currently undergoing reconciliation in the Senate, a process that would allow Republicans to bypass a Democratic filibuster and pass the legislation with a simple majority.

In another tense exchange, a Navy veteran and retired school superintendent questioned Ernst’s stance on President Trump’s leadership. “Are you afraid of Trump? Are you corrupt like Trump? Or are you just at the point that you don’t care anymore and that’s why you don’t do anything?” he asked.

After the event, Ernst posted a message online, thanking her constituents for attending the town hall.

The following day, Ernst appeared to double down on her comments in a sarcastic apology video posted to social media. Filmed against a backdrop of what appeared to be tombstones, Ernst stated, “I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely apologize for a statement that I made yesterday at my town hall. I made an incorrect assumption that everyone in the auditorium understood that yes, we are all going to perish from this Earth.” She then encouraged viewers to “embrace my lord and savior, Jesus Christ.”

The video further fueled the controversy, leaving many questioning Ernst’s sensitivity to the concerns of her constituents regarding potential cuts to vital social programs.
