Sat May 31 09:00:00 UTC 2025: ## American Qualifier Ethan Quinn Rides Momentum at Roland Garros
**PARIS, France** – American qualifier Ethan Quinn, 21, is making waves at Roland Garros, fueled by a surprising first-round victory and invaluable advice from a Top 10 player. Quinn is now chasing his first appearance in the second week of a Grand Slam tournament.
Quinn’s Roland Garros journey began with a dramatic comeback against No. 16 seed Grigor Dimitrov. After falling behind two sets, Dimitrov was forced to retire due to a thigh injury, handing Quinn the victory 6-2, 6-3, 2-6. The moment held special significance for Quinn, who had previously modeled parts of his game after Dimitrov.
The young American’s path hasn’t been easy. After dominating college tennis at the University of Georgia, the transition to the professional circuit proved challenging. Quinn credits his friend and fellow player, Tommy Paul, along with Paul’s coach, Brad Stine, for providing crucial guidance.
“It’s really rare that you have a Top 10 player that’s giving you advice on how to build your career, right?” Quinn said of Paul’s mentorship.
Quinn’s breakthrough season includes his first Masters 1000 win in Madrid and a hard-fought victory against Alexander Shevchenko in the second round at Roland Garros. He also gained valuable experience in Barcelona, pushing defending Roland Garros champion Carlos Alcaraz in a close match.
“Just watching what Alcaraz does with a tennis ball is pretty special,” Quinn remarked, highlighting his commitment to learning from top players.
Quinn is set to face Tallon Griekspoor in the third round on Saturday, aiming to continue his remarkable run at the French Open.
