**Delhi Exhibition Highlights Joy and Resilience of Childhood Through Vicky Roy’s Lens**

**New Delhi – May 27, 2025** – A poignant exhibition at the Vadehra Art Gallery in Delhi showcases the work of photographer Vicky Roy, capturing the resilience and joy found in childhood, even amidst poverty and displacement. Titled “Bachpan” (Childhood), the photo series invites viewers to reflect on the power of imagination, community, and survival in shaping young lives.

Roy’s work documents children in both rural and urban India, creating games from discarded materials and finding happiness in simple things. The exhibition also includes “Janwaar,” a series focusing on a rural village in Madhya Pradesh transformed by the creation of a skatepark. These photographs highlight how environments shape the way children play, grow, and experience joy.

Roy draws inspiration from his own difficult past. Having left home at age 11 and working as a rag picker, Roy’s life changed when he was taken in by the Salaam Baalak Trust. His work demonstrates that joy doesn’t require material possessions and can be built from what is available.

The exhibition, running until May 30th, features 45 black-and-white photographs that resist heavy-handed messaging and instead focus on the everyday acts of balancing, playing, and sharing moments. The exhibition asks the viewers to ponder not what these children lack, but what they have created, how they have moved forward, and what new futures are already in motion.
